The Aiyana is deeply committed to lessening the consequences of poverty on the island of Pemba. Our aim is to provide humanitarian aid by fostering village-based projects that impact health, education, water and income-generation, while preserving and respecting the fragile culture and traditions of the Pemba Island and its people.
As guests of many hotels and air travellers, we have all been exposed to the envelope requesting a donation for certain charities, but we sometimes hesitate, we feel we would like to give, but is it all real?
Adventure vacationers and international travelers can find fewer places in the world with more diversity than Africa. There are many people who suffer severe financial hardship, and who don’t have the means to care for themselves. They could be elderly, homeless people, handicapped people in need of wheelchairs, or sick patients awaiting surgery or, perhaps, orphans who require community care.
Whether a donation, some of your time or some unwanted items, give purposefully!
Some of our projects include:
Pack for a Purpose
The Aiyana is a proud supporter of the Pack for a Purpose cause. There is need everywhere in the world; however, it is sometimes difficult to identify specific needs in places far from home. We believe people fortunate enough to travel to other countries often wish they could make meaningful contributions to help meet the needs of the places they visit. Such contributions are one way of expressing appreciation for the experiences and hospitality they enjoyed in other lands.
Your Butler would be honoured to take you on a walk to the nearby village to meet our friendly neighbours. A reading book or colouring books with crayons are always very much appreciated.
Blissful Wishes, is an initiative to support community projects that are close to our heart. With a 100% of all donations guaranteed to be put towards our community projects, you will be able to make a real and truly valued contribution to the local communities that surround our resort. So while we enjoy giving you the holiday of your dreams at The Aiyana, you can enjoy giving a little back to the local people that make Pemba Island so special.
In our stewardship of island life we take great care in consulting with the surrounding villages to ensure we preserve the unique culture. In working with our neighbors, we empower them to support themselves and their families and give them the opportunity to improve their own lives.
Local villagers are invited to harvest the grass at the property and we provide seeds to grow produce to sell back to the resort.
For us, it is important that guests connect with the Pemban community.
